There are easy ways to travel from Chinguetti to Ouadane and back. And then there is Tanouchert. But the detour south of the comfortable tarmac road is worth it — we promise. The oasis of Tanouchert lies east of the Erg Ouarane, slightly closer to Ouadane than to Chinguetti. Once an important stop for caravans, it is today mainly inhabited during the date harvest between June and August. The people of the oasis are glad to welcome visitors, and for larger groups a small celebration is gladly arranged if announced in advance. The regional speciality is ksur, a mixture of meat, vegetables and couscous served as small pancakes. Musical evenings in the palm grove are among the local highlights that stay with travellers long afterwards. For longer stays in the Adrar, we offer an excursion and an overnight stay at the oasis as part of various itineraries; on request we can take you to Tanouchert all year round, whatever route is planned. Either way, the place offers a beautiful contrast to the larger towns and shows, like Mhaireth and Terjit, what oases have always been above all: a rescue in the middle of the desert.
